Bio
I have been a full-time practicing astrologer since 1999, mostly focused on western astrology. I combine western astrology, esoteric astrology and my new love, Vedic astrology (which I have been studying since 2014).
I grew up in New Jersey, the oldest of eight kids (yes, Irish Catholic). I went to Alfred University for a degree in ceramic engineering and took my first engineering job with Manville Corporation in Denver designing high temperature kiln insulation (yes, it was as boring as it sounds). During my two years at Manville, I started to delve into the New Age movement--reincarnation, affirmations, crystals. I saw Ram Dass, Shakti Gawain and Stephen Levine, listened to Yani (didn't we all?), worked with a Gestalt therapist and learned to meditate.
In August of 1988, I met Yogi Amrit Desai and had an awakening moment. My entire life changed in five minutes. I walked out of the talk and everything looked brighter. I noticed people and things that had lived in the background of my life. People and things that had taken up much of my time no longer mattered. Within two months I was living at Kripalu Yoga ashram in the Berkshires. I left four years later.
It took me two years to adjust to being in the "outside world" as we called it in the ashram. During that time, I took a long car journey, exploring where I wanted to live, which led me right back to where I started (Massachusetts). I spent a year in Boston at Lesley College studying expressive arts therapy. I spent a year in deep therapy focused on core and bio-energetics. I worked in a macrobiotic restaurant. I took an astrology class with Joseph Crane and had the most magical astrology reading with Wendy Ashley.
Armed with the work I had done in therapy and a renewed sense of determination, I left Boston right after the 4th of July fireworks and began a journey into the unknown. After selling my stuff and saying many good-byes, I drove following my intuition, trusting that I would find a new home and a new calling. In mid-August 1995, I landed in Olympia, Washington, which I immediately recognized as my home. I found work at the local herb store, Radiance Herbs and Massage, a free place to live in a cabin on the water and an instant supportive community.
In 1996, I did an astrology reading for a few friends, who told their friends, who told me to start charging and the rest of my work as an astrologer has unfolded with grace and ease. In 2002, I had my kind and wise son, now an adult studying computer programming.
In 2014, after both of my parents passed away, I took some time off to work on a couple of book projects. While working on a book on Sacred Geometry (still to be finished), I found I needed to understand the 9th harmonic better. I knew Vedic astrology was particularly fond of the 9th harmonic so I started what I thought was a cursory study of this form of astrology. A year later, after attending a Vedic astrology conference and embarking on a Vedic mentoring course with Dennis Flaherty, I knew I had found my new passion. In August of 2022, I completed by Jyotish Visharada certification with the Council of Vedic Astrology.
I have had the great joy and privilege to teach astrology, to be part of astrology groups, to feel embraced by community and to meet so many people doing extraordinary work on this planet. I have done readings for thousands of clients and taught hundreds. I get to feel hopeful everyday, meeting new people doing new and interesting work to help humanity.
It is an honor to do this work and serve you.
